So, gone are the days of
the good old spies and national idolatry. Hello Drones, Prisms and a re-configuration of values.
There is something
that makes me very uncomfortable with the Snowden drama, not particularly because of his
actions, but on account of the narratives which are developing around surveillance – along the absurdity and righteousness of the
general American public and the Europeans.
Re the latter: are
they EVER alienated! What did they think, that only lefties and non-citizens would
be spied upon, that Face Book and Twitter were mere big global woopy party sites?
When you see the beard of your neighbour being shaved, put yours to
soak.[i]
Let’s face it, most of us knew that we have been spied upon, in one way or
another, by the big G’s; even as we typed certain words on our e-mails, and so
did every body else. But it appears some Americans condone relative degrees of spying of their own, say hooligans, specially given the
tendency for mass murders in that country by home grown rifle totting ruffians,
gangers and fanatics. Now, in what
state of delusion are the other US
citizens in that they concluded that they would be exempt from predatory
practices by their own kin.
Here are some amusing
situations.
1) While the NRA will
defend their right to bear arms by arming EVERYBODY, they don’t seem to care a
hoot that they are spied upon. What do they care, its not privacy, civil liberties, that they are
concerned with, as opposed to
the right to infinite personal weaponry. They value their privacy in terms of self-security. These
darlings are ideal candidates for US military service and the web of
militay sub-contracting, and probably have concluded that their conversations should
actually be broadcast to the high
winds.
2) The Europeans seem
to have been quite content with this sort of Shenanigans, as long as they were taking
place in Latin America, actually everywhere else as well. And, now the Germans are sounding as
disingenuous as when they claimed that they did not know the holocaust was taking
place through the hands of their regimes (there were pogroms in Germany even
before Hitler).
3) A few months ago
Russia expelled a couple of Americans for technical espionage, perhaps in
presage to these events. Wisely, they have
not pronounced themselves for or against Snowden, although they have not
invited him to their dachas and are holding him for observation of his eating habits or some other malaise of the virtual viral type or other.
5) About the Chinese: we were also force fed a load of BS through claims filtered through the
media re buildings dedicated to espionage of US sites or to hacking in
Shanghai. Was anybody naïve enough not to suspect that to come to this
conclusion some sort of nuclear crystal balling must have been taking place
through US channels. Okay, what we did not know was its name – Prism. Too cute!!! Traditionally projects such as these, for some sick reason had names of American Indigenous martyrs – like
Geronimo, etc. Of course the linguistics had to be changed as the ante was
upped.
So all in all, the
reaction to Snowden appears to fall into some psycho-political-cultural categories in the US.
a) The Alpha Super
Megalomaniacs whose dirty little secret is now out, clamouring treason and for
the crucifixion of Snowden i.e with a trial and all. Um, I wonder who will act as Pontius Pilot. The Pentagon.
b) The Alpha Patriot
Eggs with a tenacious subconscious
tendency towards secrecy who consider themselves the Guardians of the Republic.
The NSA.
c) The Beta scurriers who
cover their tracks every time they
or anybody in their group poops. The contracting firms.
d) The
Alpha-Beta-Delta-Gamma-typer (ABDG) who really believes that Americans are exempt from any
treatment equal to that which the USA dishes out onto others, either within or
without their frontiers. The Joe/Jane Blogs, who will watch the progress of this drama, as a series with the same interest and
attention they give the baseball
series, but who keep scores. Currently Snowden 2, US Admin: three men on base
and batter with three balls. The ABDG are non-plus-sed and are staring to conclude
they don’t know what democrat or republican means. And their periodicals are
all over the map on this issue: eg. The New York Times and Washington Post to
name a couple of trend setters.
(So, instead these ABDGers rivet their attention to the likes of the trial of
George Zimmerman, who bases his defense on an out-dated alleged right to stand ground, and shoot at will, upon provocation causing fear of imminent death, such as your grandma coming at you with her mop.
All in all, via
Snowden, I am glad to have
received an official confirmation of what we intuited, Big Brother snoops BIG
TIME, but now we know we are not alone, the plans is democratically
administered, to the high sidoner and the hoi polloi - equally.
Also, seems that we do have direct access to US Intelligence – all we have to
do is, for example, write words like – he-who-gives which in Spanish is al que dá
OR Fuerza Aérea de la República de Cuba – FARC….. And, we have their full attention.
Have to think a bit more about what possible positive spin I can give this primsm-ical obstrution. Suspect some hacker could eventually boomerang the whole process and perhaps that is what the scurrying is all about.
But what if Snowden is just a cover turned into the greatest plant in recent history, because? Perhaps that is what Correa of Ecuador is weighing before he reins in the gringo, who does not appear to have any political conviction, onto his territory.

I could go on, but I have to see how they are reporting
what Oh-balm-y is doing in Africa.
